cherry point driftcell
left|600pxThe Cherry Point Beach system is a large drift cell in the Fraser Lowlands on the USA side of the border. It is the home of the Cherry Point population of Pacific Herring which lays eggs on the Submerged Aquatic Vegetation along this shoreline. The area is also home to a railroad terminus, a refinery, and two ship loading facilities, and has been a locus for conflict over water-dependent Land Use. Sediment generally moves left to right, from bluffs along the northern reaches of the beach, southward to the beach communities of Neptune Beach and finally the terminus of Sandy Point at the Lummi River mouth of the Nooksack Delta.
