freshwater mussels
Freshwater mussels are filter feeders found in Lakes, Streams and Rivers. They anchor in river beds, but have a complex life history where larvae (glochidea) attach to the gills of Fish. Freshwater mussel Biodiversity is at risk, with several species considered for listing under the Endangered Species Act.
