integrated floodplain management
IFM was initially championed by The Nature Conservancy leading to the development of the Floodplains By Design program in Washington State. It aimed to develop multi-purpose Funding mechanisms that support multiple needs of Floodplains, particularly around Salmon Recovery, Flood Hazard Management and Agriculture. The Northwest Regional Floodplain Management Association is an important nexus for exploration of IFM, along with the federal, state and local actors involved in flood hazard management. A set of prototype efforts have emerged, often led by Counties which have the capacity and liability infrastructure to implement floodplain management.
