Alliance for a Healthy South Sound
The Alliance for a Healthy South Sound (AHSS) is a collaborative organization formed in 2010 by Thurston, Mason, and Pierce Counties, along with the Squaxin Island and Nisqually Tribes in response to the EPA National Estuary Program and PSP request for formation of Local Integrating Organizations. Its mission is to coordinate efforts to restore and protect the ecological and socio-economic health of South Puget Sound. AHSS developed the South Sound Strategy between 2015 and 2016, a science-based plan guiding ecosystem restoration and recovery efforts. The strategy includes GIS mapping tools to identify priorities for protection and restoration. AHSS also facilitates educational and community engagement opportunities to involve the public in ecosystem recovery initiatives.
