Nooksack Watershed General Stream Adjudication
Adjudication is a Legal process initiated by the Washington State Department of Ecology to determine and confirm Water Rights in the basin. This process involves Tribes, farmers, Municipalities, and other water users to address disputes and ensure sustainable water allocation. The goal is to protect senior water rights, including tribal treaty rights, and balance ecological needs. It proceeds through court proceedings where users submit claims, and the court determines legal water entitlements. This adjudication aims to enhance water security, protect fish habitats (through assuring In-Stream Flow), and support long-term resource management.
